When you ship to Canada, the government may charge import duty and tax on your package.
These are small fees paid to allow your goods into the country.
Note:
Every package can be taxed, no matter how small.
The amount depends on:
The type of item (for example, clothes, shoes, food)
The declared value of your package & shipping fees combined
Where the item was made
The duty and tax are usually paid by the person receiving the item in Canada before the package is delivered.
You can use Routely's Free duty calculator to get an idea of what these costs may be.
Waybill: the main delivery form with sender and receiver details
Commercial Invoice: shows what’s inside your package, its value, and where it was made
HS Code: a product code that helps customs know what kind of item you’re shipping
You only need to describe your items properly when booking. Our system will do the rest to help customs process your package faster.
Some items cannot be shipped to Canada at all, while others are allowed only under special rules.
❌ Not Allowed (Prohibited):
Illegal drugs or controlled medicines
Weapons, guns, bullets, or explosives
Fake designer items or counterfeit goods
Hazardous liquids or flammable sprays
Pornographic or obscene materials
Fresh meat, fresh fruits, or dairy products
Live animals
⚠️ Allowed But With Rules (Restricted):
Food items: must be dried, sealed, and labeled properly (preferably commercial-standard packaging)
Cosmetics and skincare: must follow Canada’s health standards
Electronics: must meet Canadian safety rules
Herbal products and plants: may need approval or a certificate

To make sure your items arrive safely:
Use strong, clean packaging

Express (by air): usually within 3–5 business days

Declare the true value (don’t guess or undervalue).
Make sure the receiver is ready to pay any customs duties or taxes.
Keep your receipt or invoice in case customs asks for proof of purchase.
